321 Celebrates 10 years in Fort Lauderdale

In 2007, MJ Horn and Robert Young, the guys who owned 321 Slammers in Los Angeles, decided to open a sister business here in Fort Lauderdale. Since the name worked will in Los Angeles, they kept it and opened the 321 Slammers Fort Lauderdale. John Pradon, who was originally hired as a bartender two weeks after the place opened up, was eventually promoted to assistant manager and then General Manager. After five years, MJ wanted out of the business so John bought his shares. Two years ago, Robert also wanted out so John bought him out too and became the sole owner. Late last year, in October, he bought the property that the business sits on, and the rest as they say, is history.

It was a pleasure to sit down with John, and General Manager Jason Beals, just a couple weeks before the 10 year anniversary of 321 Slammers.

You are originally from Mississippi, what made you move to South Florida?

My family was already living in Melbourne Beach and I came down in 2004 to help them rebuild their condo after the hurricane. A year later I moved to Fort Lauderdale.

What did you do before 321?

I had a party business out in California with my ex-partner.

I heard you started as a bartender at 321, what made you decide you wanted to own the place?

I wanted to own 321 because I believed in the facility and what it stood for. There was no other animal like it and I wanted to be a part of something special.

I hear 321 is a Bottle Club, what does that mean?

That means if you want to dink  here, you have to BYOB (bring your own alcohol). If you buy a three month membership, the bartender will hold your liquor behind the bar for you for the entire three months. Beer and wine are only good for that evening. The BYOB license is unique to 321 as they don’t offer them anymore. Mixers are poured for free.

I hear you changed the name from 321 Slammers to 321, what was the reason?

We are in the process of doing that now. We are rebranding ourselves and we wanted to divorce ourselves from the Los Angeles club. We are no longer connected to them in any way.

What should the Community expect from your anniversary party?

Our parties are always super successful, and this one is going to be way bigger than before. We are bringing in Storks to do the catering and we are also giving away drinks all night. The drinks are sponsored by our members. We are having many giveaways including t-shirts, towels and much more.

Also, DJ Vlexxx, who spins every Saturday night, will be spinning at the anniversary party.

If someone hasn’t been, can you describe 321?
It’s a 7000 square ft. private club of play space, and the entire location is a little over 9000 sq feet. We have elevated glory hole catwalks. Exhibition rooms, different sex furniture, slings, etc.

This is a private gay men’s club with a bar and its as much or as little as you want it to be. Please keep in mind we do not allow cell phones or cameras in the building.

What does the future hold for 321?

A few weeks after the anniversary party we will become a non-smoking indoor space, but we have created an outdoor patio lounge area and play space that will be smoking. We are also doing some minor renovations inside before the party; adding more play areas and updating existing ones. We are also buying some new furniture.

321 10th Anniversary Party will be held on Wednesday, March 15 from 9PM – Midnight. The party will be open to the general public with regular admission prices. People with invitations will be allowed free entry. One invitation per person. Invitations will be available for a limited time and in limited quantity inside the club.

Things that make you go hmmm…

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED A CAREER AS A DRONE PILOT?

So it seems the business world is preparing to incorporate the use of drones for delivery, aerial photography and all sorts of things. That means, of course, the need for drone pilots. A Lakeland, Florida event is being promoted to give interested individuals “the skills and resources…to create your own independent business as a drone operator. Hmmm. Check it out at smarturl.it/FlyDronesForProfit
OUT OF NOTHING AT ALL

We discovered this phenomenon in the Smoker Family Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale. It’s an 15-foot palm tree growing out of the middle of an old oak tree. How it got there and how it thrives is a mystery. Hmmm.
BATTLE LOOMS OVER RECREATIONAL USE OF MARIJUANA

Another major battle appears to be brewing between the millions (and millions!) of recreational marijuana smokers in America and new Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Recreational marijuana has been approved in eight states as well as Washington, D.C., but remains illegal under the Federal Controlled Substances Act. Recreational use of the drug does not please the Attorney General who believes all this pot smoking is “an unhealthy practice” and is resulting in “real violence.” Observers believe those states allowing the use of recreational marijuana can expect pressure from the Trump administration to reverse those permissions. If that happens, expect the state of California and Colorado, among the most pot-friendly states in the nation, to stage a revolution.
GO AWAY OR I’LL SUE YOU…

Republican Senator Ron Johnson from Wisconsin is annoyed with his constituents pestering him to hold town hall meetings to discuss the burning issues facing their cities and state. He’s rather avoid answering questions about health care reform and immigration, it seems, so his office is now threatening constituents with “cease and desist” letters as their demands to hear from their elected representative grow louder. Way to go, Senator! Not.

Hot Talk: The Best Chatter on Facebook This Week

“Bathroom bills are not really about bathrooms. They are about whether trans people have the right to exist in public spaces. If we can’t use public bathrooms, we can go to school, we can’t work, we can’t go to health care facilities. It’s really about the right to exist in public spaces. I exist. I have a right to exist in public spaces.”

Transgender actress LAVERNE COX

“These transgender students simply want to go to school in the morning without fear of discrimination or harassment. The consequences of this decision will no doubt be heartbreaking.”

CHAD GRIFFIN, president of the Human Rights Campaign
“I think I get an A in terms of what I’ve actually done, but in terms of messaging, I’d give myself a C or a C plus.”

President DONALD TRUMP, rating his performance during his first 100 days in office
“Saturday Night [Fever] with John Travolta.”

Gay music icon RICKY MARTIN, 45, when asked to name his first gay crush.
“I will do this job as long as I can do it full steam. When I can’t, that will be the time I will step down.”

Supreme Court Justice RUTH BADER GINSBURG, 83, in an interview with NBC
“I believe it’s an unhealthy practice, and current levels of THC in marijuana are very high compared to what they were a few years ago, and we’re seeing real violence around that.”

Attorney General JEFF SESSIONS, hinting at a crackdown on states that have legalized recreational as well as medical marijuana.

Need Wood: Wide Receiver

Hey, woody!

I have a comment on the guy who entrapped his supposedly monogamous lover (he downloaded pics, posed as a trick and met him at a Starbucks). If I were your man and you set me up like that I’d kick you to the curb so fast you wouldn’t even have time to get your coffee in a To Go cup. He messed up, yeah, but he didn’t viciously perpetrate a sneak-attack from behind! I have an ex who, despite my being faithful for five years, continually accused me of infidelity, to the point where he would dream, literally *dream*, I was cheating on him and believe it! Goes to show you the insecurity people have. So don’t be thinking that suspicion automatically means guilt.

— Canned his a$$

Dear Canned:

You bring up a good point. Most of us treat the suspicion of infidelity as fact when it could be our own insecurity. But listen, you were going out with a nut. The rest of us have to contend with some realities about gay life. Namely, that we live in a culture where monogamy means not having more than one man in bed at the same time.

If you suspect that your boyfriend is playing “hide the hambone” with someone else here’s what you need to do: Bring it up in a way that isn’t accusatory. Now there’s a good way of doing it and a bad way. The good way: “I’m feeling a little insecure about our commitment to each other. I need some reassurance that the things I’m seeing aren’t clues that you’ve changed your mind about our commitment to each other.” The bad way:“I know you’re cheating on me, you lying bastard. Confess or I’ll kill your cat.”

Hey, woody!

Can taking a huge guy cause any permanent injury?

— Wondering

Dear Wondering:

Tell me something. Are you this charming when you’re hitting on people? A huge penis inserted into a small opening has the potential for causing lots of damage–like torn tissue, potential exposure to HIV and worse, a funny walk.

When it comes to bottoming, the key word is “graduate.”  Not from high school (although that *is* a good idea), but from small to large. Work your way up to larger penises. If you don’t, you risk tearing the lining of your anus, making you more vulnerable to HIV. And, even when you successfully “graduate” you still have to watch out for keeping the elasticity of your sphincter, lest you spend eternity in Pampers. If I were you I’d look at every big d!ck and think of the warning label on products containing Olestra: “May Cause Anal Leakage.”

Hot Bodies: Spring into March with These Nutrition Fun Facts

By Tom Bonanti

Spring is nearly upon us and it’s nothing short of paradise here in South Florida. Here are some fun nutrition facts that’ll help fuel your workouts, rev up your metabolism, and help you to accomplish beastly feats in the gym!

Avoid eating sugars like glucose, dextrose, maltose and sucrose that’ll leave you feeling tired and sluggish. Instead eat high energy foods like salmon, eggs, blueberries, sweet potatoes, spinach, broccoli, almonds and grass fed beef!
Carbs are your friends. They fuel your intensity at work and in the gym. Opt for low glycemic index carbs like oatmeal, brown rice, lots ofveggies and some fruits (apples, pears, kiwi).
Macro-nutrients -protein, carbohydrates and fats- are essential to your diet. But you may need to check with your doctor and do your research to see if you may need certain micro-nutrients. Minerals like calcium are important for bone density; zinc helps keep the prostate healthy; manganese for connective tissue repair.
To get ripped, eat more of these three top fat- burning foods: oatmeal (instead of muffins and donuts for breakfast), green tea (instead of sugary sodas), walnuts (always a better snack than chips).
Remember, what you eat, especially in the evening before retiring can disrupt healthy sleep patterns. Pizza, coffee, sugary cereals, spicy foods, sodas, alcohol, citrus fruits and juices, and burgers before bed are sure to interrupt your night’s rest with plenty of discomfort!
Eliminate junk food, fast food, fried food and processed meats from your nutritional plan, Period!
Feeling great, looking good and staying healthy takes a three- fold plan of anaerobic or weight training, aerobic or cardio training and sound healthy eating to really be effective!
