Spring is nearly upon us and it’s nothing short of paradise here in South Florida. Here are some fun nutrition facts that’ll help fuel your workouts, rev up your metabolism, and help you to accomplish beastly feats in the gym!
Avoid eating sugars like glucose, dextrose, maltose and sucrose that’ll leave you feeling tired and sluggish. Instead eat high energy foods like salmon, eggs, blueberries, sweet potatoes, spinach, broccoli, almonds and grass fed beef!
Carbs are your friends. They fuel your intensity at work and in the gym. Opt for low glycemic index carbs like oatmeal, brown rice, lots ofveggies and some fruits (apples, pears, kiwi).
Macro-nutrients -protein, carbohydrates and fats- are essential to your diet. But you may need to check with your doctor and do your research to see if you may need certain micro-nutrients. Minerals like calcium are important for bone density; zinc helps keep the prostate healthy; manganese for connective tissue repair.
To get ripped, eat more of these three top fat- burning foods: oatmeal (instead of muffins and donuts for breakfast), green tea (instead of sugary sodas), walnuts (always a better snack than chips).
Remember, what you eat, especially in the evening before retiring can disrupt healthy sleep patterns. Pizza, coffee, sugary cereals, spicy foods, sodas, alcohol, citrus fruits and juices, and burgers before bed are sure to interrupt your night’s rest with plenty of discomfort!
Eliminate junk food, fast food, fried food and processed meats from your nutritional plan, Period!
Feeling great, looking good and staying healthy takes a three- fold plan of anaerobic or weight training, aerobic or cardio training and sound healthy eating to really be effective!
