Broadway in Fort Lauderdale

Broadway in Fort Lauderdale is proud to announce the Broadway Musicals, Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen, will play their South Florida premiere engagements and anchor the 2018/19 season.

The 2018/19 Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale season showcases Broadway’s finest hits with a six or seven show subscription package power-packed with South Florida premieres of Broadway’s newest blockbusters and revivals.

Hamilton will play for a limited five week run December 18, 2018 – January 20, 2019.

Called “one of the most remarkable shows in musical theater history,” by The Washington Post, winner of six 2017 Tony Awards including Best Musical and 2018 Grammy nominee Dear Evan Hansen visits Mar 26 – Apr 7, 2019.

Featuring the Broadway classics “Tradition,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Sunrise, Sunset,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” and “To Life,” Fiddler On The Roof (Feb 20 – Mar 3, 2019) will introduce a new generation to this uplifting celebration that raises its cup to life, love and laughter. The romantic and adventure-filled new musical Anastasia (Apr 23 – May 5, 2019), inspired by the beloved films, is on a journey to Fort Lauderdale at last! Broadway’s hit crowd-pleaser A Bronx Tale (Jun 11 – 23, 2019) brings a street-wise story and original doo-wop tunes to the Broward Center stage.

Two worlds collide in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The King And I (Nov 20–Dec 2, 2018), the “breathtaking and exquisite” (The New York Times) musical, based on the 2015 Tony Award-winning Lincoln Center Theater production. Back by popular demand, Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom Of The Opera (Oct 10 – 21, 2018) is an optional seventh subscription show.

The Broadway in Fort Lauderdale 2018/19 subscription season is made possible with the generous support of Bank of America and is presented by Florida Theatrical Association in partnership with Broadway Across America and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The Phantom Of The Opera

October 10 – 21, 2018

Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom Of The Opera will make a triumphant return to Fort Lauderdale as part of its North American Tour. Critics are raving that this breathtaking production is “bigger and better than ever before” and features a brilliant new scenic design by Paul Brown, Tony Award®-winning original costume design by Maria Björnson, lighting design by Tony Award-winner Paule Constable, new choreography by Scott Ambler, and new staging by director Laurence Connor.

The production, overseen by Matthew Bourne and Cameron Mackintosh, boasts many exciting special effects including the show’s legendary chandelier. The beloved story and thrilling score – with songs like “Music of the Night,” “All I Ask Of You,” and “Masquerade” – will be performed by a cast and orchestra of 52, making this Phantom one of the largest productions now on tour.

One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s finest works, The King And I boasts a score that features such beloved classics as “Getting To Know You,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “Hello Young Lovers,” “Shall We Dance” and “Something Wonderful.”

Set in 1860’s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children. The King And I is “too beautiful to miss” (New York Magazine).

Hamilton

December 18 – January 20, 2019

Hamilton is  the  story  of  America’s  Founding  Father  Alexander  Hamilton,  an  immigrant  from the  West  Indies  who  became  George  Washington’s  right-hand  man  during  the  Revolutionary War  and  was  the  new  nation’s first Treasury Secretary.  Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and Broadway, Hamilton is the story of America then, as told by America now.

With book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy   Blankenbuehler and   musical supervision and   orchestrations   by Alex   Lacamoire, Hamilton is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.
