The LGBT+ Center Orlando, Inc. today announced the award recipients for the 2018 Orlando Diversity Awards. This is the 6th annual breakfast which is a way to recognize those who have gone above and beyond, standing with the community, and/or fighting for LGBT equality.
Past award recipients have included Mayor Buddy Dyer, Clerk of Court Tiffany Moore Russell, 9th Circuit Court Judge Bob Leblanc, Commissioner Patty Sheehan, Orlando Police Captain James Young, Pulse Nightclub Owner Barbara Poma, Mayor Teresa Jacobs, Mary Meeks, Esq., Transgender Activist Gina Duncan, Orlando City Soccer Club, and Scott Maxwell.
This year’s recipients are:
- Champion of Equality – Carlos Guillermo Smith, State Representative
- LGBT Ally – Chief John Mina, Orlando Police Department
- LGBT Trailblazer – Blue Star, Performer and activist
- Lifetime Achievement Award – Sam Singhaus, Performer and activist
“These award recipients really highlight the diversity of our community and we are proud to honor them. They have each made a positive impact on our community and make it a better place to live” said George Wallace, Executive Director of The LGBT+ Center Orlando, Inc.
The awards will be presented during the annual Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast at Dubsdread Catering, 549 W. Par Street, Orlando, FL 32804 on Wednesday, May 16.
