Stonewall National Museum – Wilton Manors presents the exhibition opening of Selling | Out: The History of Gay Male Images in Advertising from 6 pm – 8 pm. The diversity of these representations is expanding to include descriptions of older models, men of color, and multi-generational family units in ads for a variety of product categories. This relatively broad visibility is a recent phenomenon. The advertising industry’s incorporation of gay imagery proceeded very slowly, approaching its current volume only in the past 15 years. This exhibit traces the 100-year history of gay male images in advertising over four historical phases in the LGBT rights movement. This is free to attend with a suggested donation of $5. Refreshments provided courtesy of Barefoot Wine & Bubbly. A talk with exhibition curator Blaine Branchik, PhD, will take place at 7 p.m.
