Stonewall 50: Then, Now and Beyond – A Conversation with Karla Jay and Toni Armstrong, Jr. at 7p.m. at Stonewall National Museum Wilton Manors. As hard as it is to believe, next June will mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprisings, which led to the modern LGBTQ movement. What was the Stonewall raid really about and what is its significance for us today? Two long-time activists look back on the events of 1969-70 and their aftermath as well as some of the planned celebrations for the 50th. Karla Jay and Toni Armstrong, Jr. will converse with each other, then engage the audience in a lively conversation about what we hope for-and are working toward-during the next half century. Stonewall National Museum Wilton Manors presents an Author presentation: Beyond Face Value by Rajee Narinesingh from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Join reality television star Raje (Trans Activist Author, & Actress) for an evening of dynamic conversation, as she discusses her memoir Beyond Face Value. It will be an in-depth look at Rajee’s journey from victim to victorious. Get ready to discuss a juicy read! The evening is sponsored by trans activist and independent consultant JC Crawford. Multi-platinum, seven-time Grammy Award-winning superstar and icon Toni Braxton will release Sex & Cigarettes on March 23 via Def Jam Recordings. Sex & Cigarettes – the ninth album in Toni’s legendary career – is her first studio album since 2014’s Grammy-winning collaboration with Babyface, Love, Marriage & Divorce and her first solo album in almost a decade. The album was co-produced by Toni herself and includes the single “Deadwood,” (released September 2017), which recently topped the charts at Urban AC radio. Her brand new single “Long As I Live” is out now, and is one of several tracks Toni co-wrote and produced for the album. The album also includes a duet with Colbie Caillat (on “My Heart”). This year commemorates 25 years in the music business for Toni Braxton, since the release of her eponymously titled 8x-platinum debut album in 1993, on Arista Records. The album included her career-defining worldwide hits “Another Sad Love Song” and “Breathe Again,” which made Grammy history by winning consecutive awards in 1994 and 1995 respectively, for Best Female R&B Performance. The album also generated Toni’s 1994 Grammy as Best New Artist.
