CONCERT: Sam Smith’s The Thrill Of It All Tour

Sam released his debut studio album, In the Lonely Hour, in May 2014 and in December 2014 was nominated for six Grammy Awards, and at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2015 he won four: Best New Artist, “Stay with Me” for Record of the Year and Song of the Year, and In the Lonely Hour for Best Pop Vocal Album.

MOVIE: Skyscraper

FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Sawyer now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in Hong Kong he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who are trapped inside the building… above the fire line. Skyscraper stars Dwayne Johnson, Neve Campbell, Pablo Schreiber, and Noah Taylor.

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE: Colin Jost

The comedian, actor, and screenwriter is best known for his work on SNL, where he has served as a writer since 2005 and “Weekend Update” co-anchor since 2014. As a stand-up comedian, Jost has appeared on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon as well as on TBS and HBO.

RUBY SLIPPERS: The Wizard of Oz

The enduring 1939 classic about Dorothy (the immortal Judy Garland) and her adventures in the Land of Oz gets the Arsht Center treatment. Dorothy and her friends, the Scarecrow, Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and her little dog Toto do battle with the Wicked Witch of the West as the Miami Symphonic Studio Orchestra performs the tuneful score by Harold Arlen and Herbert Stothart.

BIG BAND HITS: From the Golden Age

The FWS Jazz Orchestra, a professional ensemble-in-residence at FAU, presents an evening of hits from the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s. Expect to hear the authentic music of Big Band sensations like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, and Benny Goodman.

MOVIES: The Cakemaker

Thomas, a young German baker, is having an affair with Oren, an Israeli married man. When Oren dies in a car crash in Israel, Thomas travels to Jerusalem seeking answers regarding his death. Under a secret identity, Thomas infiltrates the life of Anat, his lover’s widowed wife. Thomas becomes involved in her life, far beyond his anticipation. To protect the truth, he will stretch his lie to a point of no return. It’s a story about the attempt to put aside definition of nationality, sexuality, and religion.

ANIMALS: Bark at the Park

World of Beer celebrates its anniversary with a 40-keg local tap takeover, featuring specialty kegs from Funky Buddha, Cigar City, Civil Society, Coppertail, Bangin’ Banjos, 81 Bay, Devour, Accomplice, Broski, Barrel of Monks, Prosperity, Mathews and Tampa Bay Brewing Co.
