Sunday, April 23 at Soundsape Park in Miami
The 29th Annual AIDS Walk Miami will take place on Sunday, April 23 at SoundScape Park located at 400 17th Street in Miami Beach.
AIDS Walk Miami is a 5K walk-a-thon fundraiser through the picturesque streets of South Beach benefiting over 15,000 individuals living in Miami-Dade and Broward Communities who have been affected by or infected with HIV/AIDS.
The event continues to be Miami’s largest HIV/AIDS awareness fundraiser and continues to attract thousands of participants who walk for different reasons, but who walk together for one common cause: to support Care Resource and Food For Life Network food bank and its work to prevent new infections, maximize the health outcomes of those infected, and to end the epidemic here in South Florida. The changing face of AIDS in this nation reflects a devastating number of people in South Florida. Fort Lauderdale and Miami are among the municipalities with the highest AIDS rates in the United States. A high percentage of HIV positive residents in South Florida are not in care and hundreds more do not even know their HIV status. The state of the epidemic continues to grow and change; therefore, the support of the community for HIV education, prevention, research and treatment is crucial.
Robbin Simmons, Emmy award-winning reporter and co-anchor of the weekend editions of 7 NEWS at 5, 6, & 10pm, has been chosen again as the Master of Ceremonies for the third year in-a-row. According to Simmons, “I am proud to have been selected as Master of Ceremonies again for this year’s AIDS Walk Miami. HIV/AIDS can afflict anyone. Early detection and treatment can prolong lives for many. We can truly change the course of this epidemic when we’re all in it together.”
All funds raised from this walk-a-thon are used in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties to help diverse communities in medical need. For more information visit AIDSWalkMiami.org or call 305-751-WALK (9255) or email info@aidswalkmiami.org
