National LGBTQ Task Force invites everyone to join them on October 6 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach from 6:30pm to 12 midnight as the presents their National Leadership Award to Robin Roberts and Sam Champion, two of America’s most beloved television personalities!
Robin Roberts, a longtime ESPN sports anchor, became “Good Morning America” co-anchor in 2005. Under her leadership, the broadcast has won five Emmy Awards for Outstanding Morning Program and the 2017 People’s Choice Award for Favorite Daytime TV Hosting Team. In 2007 and 2008, Roberts documented her successful treatment for breast cancer and in 2012 similarly covered her medical battle against the blood disease myelodysplastic syndrome. In December 2013, she publicly acknowledged her longtime partner, Amber Laign.
Sam Champion is a five-time Emmy and Peabody award winning anchor best-known for his stint on Good Morning America, where he became the first news anchor to come out publicly. He has played a key role in disseminating live coverage from some of America’s most consequential environmental catastrophes, including the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and Super Storm Sandy. In addition to being one of the country’s most trusted anchors, Sam is a passionate advocate for the LGBTQ community. He has raised awareness of HIV prevention, was a recipient of the Human Rights Campaign’s Visibility Award, and he was one of the first openly gay news personalities in the world.
Robin and Sam are not just on-air colleagues, they are close friends. Their friendship and openness has endeared them to millions of people across the country and The Task Force is excited about honoring them at this year’s Gala!
