Hotspots Central’s Holiday Gift Guide 2018

Q&A: ‘RHOBH’ Star Erika Jayne Talks ‘Pretty Mess’ Tour

Even before she was cast on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, I knew Erika Jayne from her fabulous performances. I had seen her perform in Fort Lauderdale and Miami, and she commands the stage. You know someone is a true diva when she has beautiful/godlike dancers behind her and you can’t take your eyes off her. Therefore you know I was fangirling out a bit right before the interview, but as soon as she picked up the phone she said “Hi Scott and Happy Thanksgiving (it was the day before Thanksgiving),” and I knew she was as wonderful a person as I anticipated. By the way, at the end of the interview, she wished me Happy Thanksgiving once again! It was a pleasure to speak with Erika Jayne for this exclusive Hotspots interview just a couple weeks before her Pretty Mess tours stops in Orlando.

Were you always a performer, even as a child?

I have been entertaining since I was 3 years old.

When did singing/performing become a real interest?

Around the age of 14 when I went to performing arts high school. At that point I knew this was it!

You are a diva for the gay community. Did that happen immediately or when did the gay community find you?

My family, my mentors and a lot friends are members of the LGBTQ community, and thank god the gay community embraced Erika Jayne and the music I produce.

Where do you find your sexy back up dancers from?

They are hand-picked for me.

You have a great sense of fashion. Did that come naturally?

I have always enjoyed fashion since I was a little kid. I get it from my mom and grandma. We always loved to express ourselves creatively.

How did you pick your Glam Squad? And tell me more about them as I feel you treat them like family?

I work with a very close group of hair and makeup people. We spend so much time together that they really become your family. They are my family!

How did you get cast on RHOBH?

I was sitting on Yolanda’s couch and we were chatting, and she said you ought to be on the show. She texted her boss, set up an interview for me, and I got the job.

After so many seasons, are you still enjoying it?

I think it has done a lot for me and I am grateful!

Other than in Florida, do you have a favorite city/venue/event to perform in or at?

I would have to say I had a really great experience in Chicago recently, but I love so many places that I performed at, it’s impossible to pick a favorite!

I have to ask about your memoir, Pretty Mess, how did that come about, and was it a cathartic experience?

I don’t think it was cathartic, as I didn’t find myself healing old wounds. I was just telling my story, and it was a great experience. I am so glad that it was well received.

What should the Florida audiences expect form The Pretty Mess Tour?

Glitz, glamour, fun and a good time. Me in fabulous costumes, singing fabulous songs with hot guys behind me…come to the show!

Catch Erika Jayne in her Pretty Mess Tour performing Monday‎, ‎Dec‎ ‎10‎, ‎at 9pm at The Plaza Live (425 N Bumby Ave, Orlando) with tickets starting at only $40.

Q&A: ‘A John Waters’ Christmas Comes to Orlando

Like a damaged St. Nick for the Christmas corrupted, John Waters – legendary filmmaker (“Female Trouble”, “Hairspray”, “Serial Mom”), raconteur and author of bestselling books, Carsick, Role Models and Make Trouble – hitchhikes into town with a bag full of sticks and stones for the devoted and the damned, spreading Yuletide profanity and perverted piety with his critically acclaimed one-man show, “A John Waters Christmas”.  This rapid-fire “trigger warning” for holiday traditionalists asks the questions, “Is Prancer the only gay reindeer?”, “Is it wrong to steal purses from cars in graveyard parking lots on Christmas Eve while mourners leave flowers?”, “Has Santa ever been nude?”, and, most importantly, “Should you disrupt living crèche celebrations this year in the name of political action?”  Miracles really do happen at Yuletide, even if they’re false, and Waters prays for a Gaspar Noé Christmas film, and a new sex club that encourages gay men and lesbians to have sex with each other for the very first time.

Delving into his love for the annual December warning list of “Unsafe Toys to Give Your Child” and his hatred for email Christmas cards, The Easter Bunny, and any kind of holiday “food issues”, the Pope of Trash will give you a Cool Yule like no other.  You better watch out, you better cry!  John Waters, the People’s Pervert, is coming to town, and will be at show at Plaza Live on Monday December 17 in Orlando.

When did you start your annual Christmas Show, and how did it come about?

I would say about 14 or 15 years ago at the Castro Theater. I was asked to do a Christmas show based on why I love Christmas, and it just grew from that.

Does it change every year?

I re-write stuff every year as and I come up with new jokes…

I re-write the show every year, and I have to come up with lots of new jokes. It would be boring to me, and I am sure to the audience, if I just performed the same show every year. I just finished writing it in Sept and I haven’t learned it yet.

What is different in the 2018 Christmas Show?

Lots, that’s why I rewrite it….I don’t want people to hear the same joke. The structure is the same. What fun would it be if Santa brought you the same gifts every year?

What does the future hold?

Who knows, I am 72 years old and I have never been busier in my whole life. My new book comes out in May and I am still traveling all over the world and hosting things. I have more jobs than I can handle.

‘Widows’ Star Viola Davis Talks LGBTQ Evolution

Viola Davis taps my hand when she really means what she says. Each time the actress reaches over to make contact, the big bar in the big skyscraper in big Chicago where we are sitting diminishes. She has a way of making any space feel intimate.

The first black actor to win an Oscar, Emmy and a Tony for acting, Davis is seated diagonally from me at a larger-than-we-need table more suited for a familys Thanksgiving gathering than a conversation between two people. She is striking in a baby-blue pantsuit and a gorgeous, billowing afro, owning the space she occupies much like the way she owns the screen, having granted vulnerability and humanity to some of TV, theater and films most unforgettable women for three decades.

Her knack for investigating the deepest human depths of her characters is best illustrated in a single scene, as a loving, anguished mother in 2008s Doubt, her indelible breakthrough. Later, she starred as Aibileen Clark in The Help (she previously played another maid in gay director Todd Haynes 2002 film Far From Heaven), and in Suicide Squad and Fences, which won her an Oscar. And as criminal defense attorney Annalise Keating on ABCs hit drama How to Get Away with Murder, she is a mighty force.

Daviss signature resilience once again pervades tenacious crime-boss Veronica Rawlins in 12 Years a Slave and in director Steve McQueens socially charged action-thriller Widows, notably featuring a lead cast mostly comprised of actresses of color.

After spending the early years of her career not recognizing her power even though we did, Davis, 53, does now, she tells me. The obvious question: Do gay men feel compelled to bow down to you? I ask, moments into the candid conversation that awaits us, which has Davis reflecting on how she learned to love the LGBTQ community and why she feels her best role was as a man. Smiling, she lights up and leans back. You know what, yeah, they do.

These badass women doing badass things in a world where sometimes these women are told that they cant do them…

Absolutely.

How do you explain the connection between these strong women you play and the LGBTQ community?

Because I think the LGBTQ community feels like theyre on the periphery. They feel like theyre not seen, they feel like theyre not worthy, they feel like theyre not valued. And theres no answer to that, other than the fact that youre not heterosexual. Really, thats it. Thats what I think, and I certainly feel the same way, as someone who has been marginalized my entire life. Listen, when I think about myself, I am everything within me. Ive had boyfriends, people think Im cute (laughs). Im funny! Im telling you, Im all of those things. And I cannot stand labels. I cannot stand them.

Did you have something to do with Annalises sexual fluidity, then?

I had everything to do with that. And so did (creator) Pete Nowak; I cant leave him out. I really have to give him credit for that too. But yeah, absolutely. And also, I Am Jazz: I was watching that one night. I love that show. But I was watching that one night and (trans TV star and model Jazz Jennings) was playing in the closet with one of her friends who was a trans teenager, and it was just great. They were talking about who they see themselves with in the future, and they were like, Whoever, you know. Im open. Im open to a boy, Im open to a girl. And they started talking about just the attributes of the people they wanted to be with.

That transformed me more than anything. I thought, That is the greatest thing in the world, and I thought that that was a great idea for Annalise because Annalise is so damaged, so traumatized that what if she just said, Im just open to love? God, think about what we can explore there.

Are you inspired by this generation of young people who identify as sexually fluid?

Totally, with everything. My generation – I always say, The black and Hispanic people liked disco and the white people liked rock n roll. That was my generation. And there was no language for homosexuality – only fear.

Growing up in Rhode Island, what was your introduction to the LGBTQ community?

Hmm… probably through thats a difficult question. Im gonna say this: My friend shit. This is menopause, cause I was just talking about him. Slim! My friend Slim! And Ill say him, even though its more than just him, because I just did have a lot of gay friends. Im a theater geek!

But my introduction into, especially the gay and the trans community, was Slim. And the reason why I say that is because it challenged even my idea of sexuality, because we were just friends and he had a girlfriend, and then he announced to me that he was gay, and then it went from that to him borrowing my clothes, my dresses. I was like, Oh, OK! You can borrow my dresses! So he would take my dresses, and then it went from that to him dropping out of school and of course we still continued our friendship. And then it went from that to him wearing my makeup.

I just remember going with it, of course, because I loved him. It was my first introduction into a different level of sexuality that no one talked about. He had a group of young men that lived with him who were all trans and he called them his sons and daughters. Some were gay, some were trans, some were transvestite, and it was my first introduction into the fluidity of sexuality.

You said this was going to be a difficult question for you to answer, but it wasnt.

It wasnt difficult, I know. I guess not.

Was reconciling your Christian upbringing with your acceptance of homosexuality a challenge for you?

I guess it was a little – it was. But I loved him. I have to say I loved him, so I felt it was on me to shift my thinking and it was up to me to understand him. I will say I went with it, but it was my first introduction to understanding it. When I was on Facebook, I did have my Facebook friend Nika (Lomazzo, a trans woman and activist) and she really schooled me. So every day I would go to her site and she would school me and I said, Ive been to school; Im just gonna learn. Shes a trans woman, so I was schooled (with) just certain language.

The first time you kiss a same-sex love interest played by Famke Janssen – did your mother ever see that episode of How to Get Away with Murder even though you didnt want her to?

Yep!

You said that you werent gonna show it to her.

I didnt show it to her! She saw it on her own!

And?

She was good with it – because my niece is gay and at 9, 10 years old she told her mom, my sister: Mom, I like girls, and my sister said, OK. Well, are you OK? She said, I think Im fine. She was like, OK, well Im good too. And that was their conversation.

You starred in one of the most notable queer films ever made: Todd Haynes Far From Heaven. How do you reflect on your role in that film?

The maid? I liked that movie. I loved that movie.

And the role?

I mean, the role was a maid. Im done with the maids. But that was in the beginning of my career. I wasnt really awoke then not as awoken as I am.

You recently admitted to having issues with The Help.

Yeah, I did.

Looking back on The Help and Far From Heaven, what has that taught you about the importance of representation for the black and LGBTQ community?

I guess I already knew it then, too, but I never thought that I had any power. I was just happy to have a job. But I think its important to be seen, its important to see your own images on the screen and in a way that is honest.

The reason I became an actor, and its absolutely the reason why I became an actor: Im a total nerd and I fell in love with Arthur Miller. He said he wrote to make people feel less alone, and thats why I do what I do. Seriously, thats why I do what I do. I seriously do. And so I feel responsible for any image I put out there that makes people feel alone, that makes people feel not seen, that doesnt show fully who they are – their anger, their pain, their joy, their sexuality. Thats your job as an artist, so yeah, thats where Im at right now.

Have you considered the importance of you not just portraying a lesbian but a lesbian of color, a demographic so rarely portrayed on screen, and the impact that could have on the LGBTQ community?

Ive been offered, I played: Gods Heart with Julie Kavner. We were lesbians. I played a lesbian in King Lear. It was a workshop production (at the Public Theater in New York) and actually the guy who directed it was one of the people who put together Paris Is Burning and he set King Lear in one of the gay (ball-culture) houses of the 90s. And I didnt do it, because the director told me at the last minute I probably shouldve done it, but he wanted me to compete in those gay house shows. You have to be a man pretending to be a woman or a woman pretending to be a man and the more real you are, thats a whole competition. Its about being as real as you can be. To me, that was the best role Id ever done, by the way. Bar none. TV, film. It was the best role.

Why was your role in King Lear so special to you?

Because I had to play a lesbian who was pretending to be a man and I went home I am telling you, I said, I am gonna hit this (bangs fist against palm). So I felt like I really transformed into a man. I thought it was totally believable! And Nicole Ari Parker was my girlfriend! Every time we see each other, Im like, (excitedly waves her arms) Hey!

I feel like gay men must come up to you all the time and quote Annalises iconic line, Why is your penis on a dead girls phone? Is that line still following you around?

I mean, I dont know what it is about that line – maybe just cause it was so unexpected! So I keep quoting or thinking about Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, because I feel like gay men like that movie too. I love that movie. And theres a lot of reasons why. I think its Judy Garland too, you know?

Right, a gay icon.

Yeah. You understand why. But also, this is my thing: She keeps talking about going home and wanting to go home, and then in the end the Good Witch tells her (she) had the power to go home all along. I know, even as a black woman, that feeling. I have the power within to be the change I wanna see, to have the life I wanna have; its already in me.

People strip us of our worth and the potency of our worth and the potency of our power so much. I see it because… listen, Im socialized on steroids (laughs). The number of people I meet every day who interview me, who I have to meet at parties and social gatherings, because Im an actor one of the things Ive noticed, cause I love looking at different reporters who come in and imagining who they are, who they love, and I love it. And there have been (people) who come in from the LGBTQ community – and now theres more trans men, trans women reporters, and its a coming out and stepping into who you are. You gotta love it.

Comedian Randy Rainbow Returns to Fort Lauderdale

Comedian, actor, writer, host and Internet sensation Randy Rainbow (his real name) appears at Parker Playhouse Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1 at 8 p.m.

Rainbow is perhaps best known for his viral comedy videos and his popular series of political spoofs and song parodies that have garnered international acclaim and over a hundred million views. He’s been called “the best thing about the 2016 GOP race” by Dan Savage and his musical tribute to the first presidential debate of 2016 (“BRAGGADOCIOUS!”) received 28 million views in its first two days. He was subsequently asked by the cast of TV’s Will & Grace to parody a song which they performed during a political fundraiser for the 2016 election.

Rainbow has also written for comedian Kathy Griffin and hosted and performed in numerous theatrical events for the Broadway, cabaret and gay communities, as well as for the Tony Awards and some of New York City’s most popular night spots including 54 Below, Birdland Jazz Club, XL Nightclub and Therapy NYC, where his own weekly show ran for two years.

Rainbow has been seen as a talking head on VH1 and has been heard regularly as both a guest and co-host on Sirius XM Radio. He is the creator and star of the long-running BroadwayWorld.com web series Chewing the Scenery with Randy Rainbow and Last Minute with Randy Rainbow.

Curtain to Rise on Act II at Parker Playhouse

Parker Playhouse is set to undergo a $25 million transformation to take the iconic entertainment venue into the 21st century.

When Parker Playhouse opened in Fort Lauderdale in 1967, it was a catalyst in turning a sleepy beach town into a vibrant cultural community. Since that time, some of the biggest names in entertainment have graced the Parker Playhouse stage.  That stage also serves as a classroom for thousands of students annually who are enriched by educational performances.

“This is truly an exciting time. Act II at the Parker will allow us to continue to provide outstanding artistic, educational and cultural programming for generations to come. The theater, known for its storied past, will reach new heights in the future,” said Kelley Shanley, president and CEO of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, which has managed the Parker since 2005.

The reimagined Parker Playhouse will retain its classic elegance with many original architectural features remaining intact. The original façade of the building will come alive in the stunning new lobby. Parker Playhouse also will feature private donor and premium lounges, a signature bar area and new hospitality experiences in addition to upgraded systems, state-of the-art equipment and advanced acoustics. The popular continental seating configuration of the theater will be maintained.

The Campaign for the Parker will be chaired by former U.S. Senator George S. LeMieux. “It is my honor to chair this committee. As a native of Broward County, I appreciate the impact the Parker has had on our community,” said LeMieux. “But its impact goes beyond entertainment. It is one of the treasures of South Florida.  With this renovation, the Parker will be transformed from first class to world class.”

“We want to thank our donors and sponsors who are supporting this incredible project,” said Richard B. Welch, chair of the board of the Broward Performing Arts Foundation. “To date, we have raised more than $20 million towards our $25 million goal. There are many opportunities for the public to participate in the Parker’s restoration and help us preserve its rich legacy for generations to come.”

The Broward Center anticipates breaking ground on the project in summer 2019, and construction is anticipated to be completed in time for the 2020-2021 season. For more information on these campaigns, visit ParkerPlayhouse.com/Support.

Seven Not-To-Be-Missed LGBTQ Artists

MNEK

You’ve heard English singer, songwriter and producer MNEK behind the scenes, writing for artists like Madonna and Beyoncé (yes, he co-wrote a Lemonade jam, Bey’s “Hold Up”). But with his Capital Records debut, the 23-year-old UK rapper-singer steps into the spotlight, seeing his own artistic vision through with a 16-track album meant to be heard as a full album, a defiant move in a singles-driven music industry. Black and gay, MNEK knows the struggle to thrive in a majority-rules world, which he writes about on the album’s standout, “Correct,” a call-to-arms for queer people, served through the musical guise of a big party bop. Words to live by: “Yas bitch, stay fabulous, honey.”

Donna Missal

As is the case for many aspiring musicians who climb YouTube’s ladder, New Jersey’s Donna Missal stormed the internet first, racking up 11 million combined streams. The demand opened the doors to her first album, the soulful This Time, released in September on Harvest Records. Produced by Tim Anderson, known for helming projects by Solange and Halsey, the sexually fluid LA-based singer-songwriter’s rock-meets-soul sound is as intoxicating as her lyrical content, which she says reflects “taking chances for yourself, figuring out who you are and really standing behind that.”

John Duff

Sassy, frequently shirtless IG sensation John Duff took his social clout to the next level with the release of his song “Girly,” a frothy pop romp celebrating femme power (“let’s get girly, flip our hair, we don’t care”). Its accompanying video is a tribute to a pantheon of gay icons. In the clip, he delightfully mirrors the precious mannerisms of Mariah in her 1999 “Heartbreaker” video along with her signature look – a midriff halter top, cut-off jeans – while also recreating other iconic music-video scenes from Madonna, Britney, Beyoncé and Christina Aguilera.

Shea Diamond

Activism is art in Shea Diamond’s case. Performing songs to fellow prisoners while serving time in various Michigan prisons, the trans singer-songwriter and her inspiring narrative soon fell into the nurturing hands of star producer Justin Tranter, who Diamond has called her “fairy godmother.” Tranter produced songs from Diamond’s first EP, released this year. For the album, the artist channels her personal struggles as a trans woman of color living in a time when the trans community is under attack. Now, particularly, her soulful croon is a voice that needs – and demands – to be heard.

Christine and the Queens

Pansexual French pop singer, songwriter, producer and choreographer Hélöise Letissier yearned to break down gender constructs, so she fashioned an androgynous look, started going by “Chris,” and used her new persona (previously, her professional alias was Christine and the Queens) as the title of her sophomore album, released in September. One of the most exciting pop albums of the year, Chris holds a mirror to the artist’s personal journey, boldly framing her newfound identity in assertive retro beats that throb and empower.

Michael Blume

Michael Blume, an alumni of Yale University whose future was once academia-bound, almost didn’t pursue music as a career. But after joining an on-campus a capella group that toured the world, performing in 35 countries, the New Jersey-bred, NYC-based has forged a flourishing musical career for himself. Queer and other human rights issues still rest heavy on his mind as illustrated by his latest release. A follow-up to his 2016 debut When I Get It Right called Cynicism & Sincerity, the six-song EP’s musically diverse palette – from trap hip-hop to gospel and electronica – is the conduit for his pointed and passionate activist convictions.

Faultlines

Folk-pop trio Faultlines pulled no punches with their Trump-targeted words on “Rain,” released early this year. The fired-up anthem is in the stomping soul style of 1960s protest songs and blends the earthy voices of band members Todd McCool, Ashley Morgan and John Flanagan, who draw upon urban pop and roots country for the gritty call-to-action. Their lyrics rouse: “There’s a man in a big white house trying to take your voice away,” they sing. “Do nothing and stay silent if you think that it’s OK.”

VH1 Announces ‘Drag Race’ All-Stars Season 4 Contestants & Guest Judges

VH1 recently announced the guest judges set to join the highly anticipated fourth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.” RuPaul will be joined by a star-studded line-up of celebrities, alongside show regulars Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, and Ross Mathews, as they decide who will stay, lip-sync for their legacy, or “sashay away.” “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars” follows the record-breaking tenth season of VH1’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” which just became the first show to ever win an Emmy Award in both the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program categories in the same year. The series will return to the runway with supersized 90-minute episodes on Friday, December 14th at 8pm on VH1.

This season’s guest judges include Jenifer Lewis, Ciara, Kacey Musgraves, Gus Kenworthy, Keiynan Lonsdale, Zoë Kravitz, Yvette Nicole Brown, Cecily Strong, Rita Ora, Susanne Bartsch, Ellen Pompeo, Frances Bean Cobain, Felicity Huffman, Jason Wu and Erica Ash.

The 10 competing super queens will hold nothing back to impress the judges as they vie for a spot in the coveted “Drag Race Hall of Fame” and a grand prize of $100,000 are:

Farrah Moan (Season Nine)

Los Angeles, CA | Twitter: @farrahrized, Instagram: @farrahrized

Farrah moaned her way through season nine, and your favorite Vegas showgirl is back for “All Stars” four! The cotton candy queen may have gotten lost in her emotions in her season, but on “All Stars,” she’s ready to highlight (wink) her talents…. She wants to prove to the world that she’s more than just a cry baby and take her place on a pink pedestal in the “Drag Race” Hall of Fame!

Gia Gunn (Season Six)

Los Angeles, CA | Twitter: @GiaGunn, Instagram: @gia_gunn

Gia Gunn is back, but does she have the firepower to blast her way into the “Drag Race” Hall of Fame? Absolutely. Gia wants to show she’s more than sassy catchphrases from season six. She’s fully seasoned and ready to snatch that “All Stars” crown!

Jasmine Masters (Season Seven)

Los Angeles, CA | Instagram: @msjasminemasters

Her name is Jasmine Masters, and she has something to say… she’s here, b*tches! Back for more, on “All Stars” four! Since season seven, Jasmine has gone viral on social media making her the ultimate “meme queen.” But Jasmine wants to prove she packs more than a punchline and has the skills to take home the crown.

Latrice Royale (Season Four and “All Stars” One)

Hollywood, FL | Twitter: @LatriceRoyale, Instagram: @latriceroyale

She’s large and in charge, chunky yet funky… she is Latrice Royale! Latrice competed on season four and as half of “Team Latrila” on “All Stars” one, but she failed to make her way to the top both times. She’s back in the werkroom to prove that an OG queen can serve it to the younger queens and finally secure her spot in the “Drag Race” Hall of Fame!

Manila Luzon (Season Three and “All Stars” One)

Los Angeles, CA | Twitter: @manilaluzon, Instagram: @manilaluzon

Runner-up on season three and gone-too-soon on “All Stars” one, Manila is back again hoping the third time is the charm. She’s got a closet full of campy couture and the comedic chops to make Manila an “All Stars” thrilla, but will it be enough to finally take home the “Drag Race” crown?

Monét X Change (Season Ten)

New York, NY | Twitter: @monetxchange, Instagram: @monetxchange

On her season, Monet X Change won the hearts of all and the Miss Congeniality title. Fresh off of season 10, she’s back with a fire lit under her padded ass to serve some polished looks and prove she has everything it takes to soak up the “All Stars” crown!

Monique Heart (Season Ten)

Kansas City, MO | Twitter: @IAmMoniqueHeart, Instagram: @iammoniqueheart

Monique Heart came to Season 10 with talent, glitter, and Jesus… What she lacked was the funds for a closet full of costumes. Since her season, she’s performed all over the world, making that coin and amassing a stunning collection of lerks. Monique is back for “All Stars,” reclaiming her time, and vying for a spot in the “Drag Race” Hall of Fame!

Naomi Smalls (Season Eight)

Chicago, IL | Twitter: @naomismallsduh, Instagram: @naomismalls

On Season eight, Naomi Smalls put the LEG in “legendary” and stomped her way into the top three. She’s back on “All Stars” to prove she can outperform the best of ‘em and to show the world you should never underestimate the tall, pretty fashion model.

Trinity Taylor (Season Nine)

Orlando, FL | Twitter: @trinitythetuck, Instagram: @trinitythetuck

Trinity Taylor is back as Trinity the Tuck… and this tuck has teeth! On Season nine the pageant queen, with body for days, made us laugh all the way to the top four. But now, full “All Star” confidence, she’s here to claim her seat in the “Drag Race” Hall of Fame.

Valentina (Season Nine)

Los Angeles, CA | Twitter: @allofvalentina, Instagram: @allaboutvalentina

It’s fan favorite, Valentina! She was chopped from season nine for not knowing the words, but since her season, there’s no masking her talent. The glamorous, high fashion, Latin American diva is back on “All Stars” for her Telenovela redemption story…. and the “All Stars” crown.

To celebrate the upcoming season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars,” Logo will be airing a week-long marathon of every episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.” Starting on Friday, December 7th, at 10pm, the marathon will run until December 14th at 8pm, leading into the new season’s premiere.

I’m Not Leaving Without My Pet

Dear Andreus,

My ex and I were together for 5 years.  In that time, I bought him a dog. She is beautiful, and I bought her home at 4 months old.  Though she was a gift to him in the early stages of our relationship, I took care of her pretty much all the time.  Now that we have separated, due to his infidelity, I want the dog. Since I have invested so much time and energy into caring for her, I think it is only fair.  Am I wrong?

Sincerely,

Not Without My Daughter

Dear Not Without My Daughter,

These situations are tough.  Pets often have a place in our lives, as if they were human children.  The reality is that if you gave her to him as a gift, then it is not right to take her away.  A gift is given to keep, not to withdraw when things change. Maybe you two can come to an arrangement.  You could always take turns keeping her, that way no one feels at a loss. If you both love the dog, then you will put your differences aside and focus your love on her. After all, she is innocent.

Dear Andreus,

My boyfriend and I have had a pretty decent relationship.  He is very big on careers and making money and has always said that he could not date someone who doesn’t have a job.  Recently, I lost my job, and have had a difficult time finding another one or at least one that I want. I do have a good amount of savings, which allows me to sustain myself.  The issue is that I am scared to tell him, in fear that he will leave. I know that it is only a matter of time before he finds out. I don’t know what to do.

Sincerely,

Unemployed Lover

Dear Unemployed Lover,

Okay.  I think we all like having someone in our lives who is independent and can take care of themselves without our help.  If he is going to leave you just because you lost your job, then LET HIM GO. If it is that easy for him to go, then you must question his loyalty to begin with.  Things happen in life that are sometimes beyond our control. Clearly it seems that this is just a hiccup for you, so if he really loves you, or wants to be with you, then he should understand that.  If you are using your own money to sustain yourself, and not leeching off him, then there should be no complaint. You have nothing to be ashamed of. If he can’t accept it, then on to the next one. Love and cupidity can never have a balanced existence together.

Get Ready for a Roy Cohn-ucopia

Did you miss the Roy Cohn lesson in queer history class? Do you still not know about the closeted, Trump-mentoring, McCarthyite lawyer who hated the LGBT community and himself? Well, soon you wont be able to blame media erasure for not knowing about one of the most dastardly homosexual villains of the 20th century, because Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex) is about to star opposite Christine Baranski, Cush Jumbo and Rose Leslie, playing a character based on Cohn in the upcoming third season of the CBS All Access series The Good Fight. Sheen will play a charismatic lawyer named Roland Blum whose wickedness and corruption provides plenty of resistance fodder for Baranski.

Meanwhile, we already reported on the upcoming Matt Tyrnauer (Scott and the Secret History of Hollywood) documentary Wheres My Roy Cohn? (formerly titled Dont Mess with Roy Cohn) But brace yourself for a second Cohn doc, this one still untitled, from Ivy Meeropol (Heir to an Execution). Shes the granddaughter of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, who were prosecuted by Cohn in the 1950s, and then executed. Word is that this one will focus intently on Cohns private life, based on information from people who knew him, as well as on candid audiotapes of Cohn himself. Not to worry, none of this drops between now and the holidays to bum you out; itll all be part of 2019s gift basket of deplorables instead.

Todd Haynes and Mark Ruffalo go after DuPont

Three-time Academy Award nominee Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight) will leave his Hulk responsibilities alone long enough to star in the latest movie from Todd Haynes. Socially conscious production company Participant Media will produce the film once known as Dry Run, though currently untitled about corporate lawyer Robert Bilott, who shepherded an environmental lawsuit that turned his career upside down and, most importantly, exposed decades of chemical pollution on the part of DuPont. Ruffalo will co-produce the film, based on Nathaniel Richs New York Times Magazine article, The Lawyer Who Became DuPonts Worst Nightmare. It will be interesting to see what Haynes can do with this material, as his adaptations of other work always wind up bearing his auteurist stamp, and its great to see one of Marvels most beloved superheroes take time out to remind audiences that the only real-life heroes are the people who stick out their necks and take on the Big Bad themselves.

Romeo San Vicente Still loves the Hulk!
